An Arcade Farewell
Our last night in Sasebo with the Duran/Rome family was spent at the Arcade, the name given to the covered shopping streets you’ll find throughout Japan’s cities. First, a stop for sweet bean cakes. We preferred the dark beans, warm and rich, oozing from the waffle-batter cake. Yummy!

Next, dinner at a lovely Japanese restaurant where we enjoyed several new dishes. Kaj has been a real taste trooper.

Then, after our usual stops at the 100 Yen (Dollar) Stores, we found more of the delightful misused English sayings. Kaj has collected and memorized several of these now if you want to hear the best of the best. Here’s the Sasebo line-up…

And for those really bad days…

We even got to check out some hats and bags at this place.

And after talking with kids about my critic (who is built like frig and hovers above me saying things like “Who do you think you are!?!), this one tickled me. So, what do you think, writers?

Thanks, Geena, Tom, Jason, Nicole, Xavier, Susan, and all our other Sasebo friends. We’ll miss you…

We really did enjoy your visit. So much fun chattin’ and sight-seeing with you and Kaj!
All the kids at school are still going on about your visit, too. I’ve read, or talked about your books, with several of the classes I’ve subbed in since. Questions, questions, questions! Writers are on the rise, too!
Anyway, hope you and Kaj are caught up, or catching up, with rest – and – be on the look out for more t-shirt words/phrases. I saw some new ones on the Arcade just the other day!
