Disguise the Enemy and Reverse a Decision
In the novel I set aside before embarking on this NaNoWriMo adventure, my main character has a mentor who is actually his lost father’s enemy. I was thinking my NaNo novel didn’t have a disguised enemy, but as Nonny and her best friend Vince drift in different directions, I realize that he becomes an enemy. Drawing the Disguise the Enemy card this morning makes me aware of how I need to strengthen their friendship at the beginning so Nonny has farther to fall. Tsk tsk.
Reverse a Decision! You’re getting an extra Nuj today again. I’m taking a day off tomorrow. I’ve been wallowing in my novel’s shortcomings (guess that inner critic came home early from the trip I sent her on) and I’m going into town (island talk for Seattle) to play a little. Actually, I’m doing a couple errands, but reframing it as Play is how I’m able to hop on the ferry and leave paradise. I’ll pack in some extra NaNo words today, and maybe even take the laptop with me. We’ll see… See how I procrastinate? Back to Reverse a Decision. Where does your character renege on a decision? Where can they back out of a commitment? I just had an Aha. This actually goes along with Disguise the Enemy in my NaNo novel. I need to show Nonny’s commitment to Vince at the beginning. BFF and all that, to make it harder for her to cut their ties later. Wow.
Thanks for helping me this morning! So, is there anything I can do for you?

Hi, Deb!
I really enjoyed this post. You provided me with a fine example of how a writer can overcome procrastination, potential plot pitfalls, and roadblocks by just continuing to write until a resolution appears. This blog reminds me of when athletes, after exerting enormous amounts of energy, speak about achieving a “runner’s high.” In both writing and running, a bliss engulfs your soul, and provides the energy you need to propel yourself onward. Thanks for sharing!
