Moorish Castle

Ahhhh… While the rest of the Sintra sight-seeing crowd tromped and bussed over to Pena Palace (more on that later), I found a home of sorts at the Moorish Castle (800-900).

Stories hide in the stones there and I could have spent all three of my Sintra days perched on the steps and rocks of the castle wall trails and walkways. It filled me up. And when this place appears in the life of one of my characters someday, I’ll know how they feel.

Photos can never replace an experience, but climb into these if you can…

I love portals. Doorways, arches, overhanging trees, hollowed-out trees, cave entrances… Stepping into the stone archways of the Moorish Castle is magical.

Across the valley is where I’ve left the mobs, and where I’ll be later, but that’s a story for another day…

  • So wonderful to see these pics and know you are there. The Sintra Moorish Castle was about my favorite part as well…..Jodie and I spent most of our time there, and in the surrounding woods.

I’ll show you a pic or 2 of us sitting up on those same castle walls sometime when we’re hanging out.

    Enjoy this amazing adventure, Deb!

  • I’m stunned by your photo’s. I want to live there. Can’t wait to hear more.
