Off to Japan!

Attention all Teachers!
On Monday I’m leaving for Japan with my 12 year old son Kaj for three weeks. We’ll both be blogging, but Kaj’s will focus not only on Japan (until we get home), but on reading. Books have been his escape, his food for his imagination, and talking about books has been a way for him to connect with others. He’s hoping his blog will inspire kids to read, and to share what they’re reading. Please invite your students to take a peek, to send in comments, reading suggestions, book reviews, or just share anything they want with him. Please spread the word, and let’s get and keep our kids excited about reading.

  • I plan to not only check out Kaj’s blogs but to invite my son’s class to do so as well. I am wondering if anyone has any advice on keeping kids safe on the internet if they are blogging? I am new to blogging so I’m wondering, are there kid safe blogging sites that offer them some sort of protection? I currently am not teaching in the classroom, but I volunteer in both my son’s and daughter’s classes and work with a 4 year old autistic child. I think the idea of having children blog about their reading is an excellent idea and one I will be looking into. Kids love technology and computers and what a great incentive for them to use these tools, if they read something and enjoy it, they get to go on-line and talk to other kids about it. Great idea.
Bye the way, is Kaj a homeschooler? I think this would be a great way for homeschool children to stay connected to their peers. What fun!
